DUCIE ISLAND, VP6 On Nov 19, 2340 UTC, the team decided to cancel the first activity from this new DXCC entity. At this point Mike,VP6AJ (K9AJ), and Vince, VP6VT (K5VT), were the only two doctors on Pitcairn. So if you ever dreamt of a first time activity from a new DXCC entity be quick and pack your radios!

Besides of Maria, Rapa, Raivavae, Rimatara and Tubuai this island belongs also to the Austral Islands group. Rurutu's landsize measures about 32 sqkm and has the shape of the African continent! The highest two elevations are Taatioe (389m) and Manureva (384m) and another cliff is falling off 60m to the sea. Rurutu Island is surrounded by a reef but has no lagoon.

Sixty historical housings are testifying the first settlement on the island around 900 AD. Captain James Cook was the first European to discover Rurutu Island in 1769.
